Blackpool Better Start teamed up with Blackpool Grand Theatre to creatively evaluate the impact of National Lottery funding on local families. Since 2018, they’ve gathered personal stories—both in person and online—to highlight the real difference the programme has made for those receiving support, volunteering, and working in early years services.

Community.
Better Start brings people together, creating welcoming groups where families connect through neighbourhoods, online communities, and shared experiences.

Communication.
We wanted to see if Better Start projects helped people feel more confident in communicating—expressing themselves clearly, understanding others, and handling conversations in everyday places like work, school, or the doctor’s office.

Connection.
Better Start brings parents and families in Blackpool together, helping them connect with people, communities, and opportunities for learning, work, and support—whether online or in person—so they feel supported, empowered, and part of something bigger.

Capacity.
We wanted to explore whether taking part in Better Start projects helped people build their personal capacity—the skills to make decisions, follow instructions, seek help, and navigate life's ups and downs with confidence and strong communication skills.
